Is Europe a community of values?
With war in Ukraine, energy crisis in Europe and an increasingly authoritarian China, is it time to think anew about Europe’s role in the world? The Christian Democrat, Robert Schuman (1886-1963), one of the Fathers of Europe, was concerned that the European institutions “cannot and must not remain an economic and technical enterprise: it needs a soul, the conscience of its historical affinities and of its responsibilities in the present and in the future, and a political will at the service of the same human ideal”. Should the EU be more than a free market area? If so, what values are common for all European countries?

- Janne Haaland Matlary, professor of international politics at University of Oslo
- Ine Eriksen Søreide, Member of parliament for Høyre, chair of the foreign relations committee and former Foreign Minister
The breakfast meeting is hosted in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
A Q&A session will follow after the introduction.
